Community Connect Grant Honors Underrepresented Businesses Bringing About Change

Femi Akinde and Mike Koss are changing the way tech bootcamps are done. HNG Internship provides free coding training for about 25,000 students in Nigeria and other African countries. They were offering zero hurdles to people getting the skills. It was local kids getting skills.

Reskill Americans is a tuition-free coding bootcamp partnering with HNG Internship. It’s targeting racial and ethnic groups that are underrepresented in the tech sector. Entry into the program requires no interviews, hackathons or prerequisite skills. Students need only a laptop and internet connection.

Enrollment is capped at 1,000; about 250 people have signed up so far. Classes are taught online by Nigerian instructors in recorded and live sessions with a 10:1 student to teacher ratio.
